NAME

autodial -  control demand dialing
SYNOPSIS
autodial [-d | -on | -off | "connection name"]
DESCRIPTION
When invoked with no argument, command autodial prints the current Default Autodial Connection name and the setting of the global Master Autodial variable. That variable is the master autodial switch, and if it is 0, no autodialing takes place, irrespective of the state of the Enable Dialing variable of any PPP Client Interface. If Master Autodial is 1, then an autodial may take place on an enabled PPP Client Interface if certain conditions are met. Those conditions are:
  • A packet needs to be forwarded to the Internet but no interface-specific or general default route exists in the NAT32 Routing Table. In this case, the Autodial Connection of the first enabled PPP Client Interface will be dialled. If no Autodial Connection was specified for that interface, the Default Autodial Connection will be dialled.
  • One or more connections to the Internet exist, but the total input load has exceeded 90% for at least 5 minutes, and additional, enabled, fully configured PPP Client Interfaces are available. In this case, the Autodial Connection of the next enabled PPP Client Interface will be dialled. If no Autodial Connection was specified for that interface, no dialing takes place.
  • Argument -d copies the current Windows Default Connection name to the Default Autodial Connection name. That connection name is used if a dial operation needs to take place on an enabled PPP Client Interface, but no connection name is currently specified for that interface.

Argument -on sets Master Autodial to 1.

Argument -off sets Master Autodial to 0.

Argument "connection name" copies the specified connection name to the Default Autodial Connection variable.

    NOTES

The connection name must be specified within double-quotes if it contains white-space characters.

The Master Autodial variable can also be toggled via a toolbar icon and via the Autodial menu item. Holding down the left mouse button shows the current state of the toggle. Release the mouse button elsewhere if you do not actually want to toggle the feature.
